The version of AirPort Utility that you were trying to download (6.3.1) is a much older version of AirPort Utility, so it would not be compatible with the latest version of AirPort Utility (6.3.8), which was already installed on your Mac.

AirPort Utility 6.3.1 is for Mac OS X V 10.10 My MacBook Pro has OS X version 10.11.2 El Capitan. I need to install an AirPort Utility for my O/S so I can change the channel assignment. My download speed is supposed to be up to 200Mbps and a lot of the time it's under 100Mbps. Sometimes it's 130Mbps, like right now. TWC said I should be using channels 1, 6 or 11, but I can't get into my AirPort Time Capsule, to check or change the channel assignment.
I have a simple network setup, and have read some initial reviews that say the new Airport Utility 6 for Mac OS X lacks some of the advanced settings that the older utility provides. I depend on those settings for my network to operate properly.
This blog post describes the compatibility problem with Mavericks, and includes a solution (in the form of a freely downloadable launcher) that injects a file in the old version of Airport Utility which is required for it to run under Mavericks.
You can download AirPort Utility 6 through Software Update, or get it directly from Apple. Corresponding firmware updates for Time Capsule and AirPort were also pushed out today, those will only appear in Software Update if you are actively using those devices.
No need to downgrade. You can have both Airport Utility and Airport Utility 5 on your Mac together. Think of them as independent apps.If you had Airport Utility 5 before, then you may still have it now. Look for it. If it isn't there, then you can download it easily.Apple has it for you right here:
Apple also outdated on there site -setup.html LOL :) apple your slow now I'm going to go back date my airport :( I'm sad like hell but i well use it on a other airport but my main airport I'm back dating it
You might installed 5.5.3 or 5.6 (use download links above) and see what the older AirPort Utility versions tell you. Network extension can be a tricky beast. Restarting the base stations might also fix the problem. They have to link up dynamically to make it work.
i have a weird setup that isn't registering. I have a Time Capsule that acts as my router, and an Airport Express that's hooked by ethernet to the router, so all the wireless operates at N speeds, while airplay works over the ethernet. New version only sees the express and not the capsule, but I'm afraid to restart things and redoing the set up incase the new utility breaks it.
The new utility won't break anything until you apply settings. My advice is to stick to 5.5.3/5.6 if everything is working. There's no particular advantage in using 6.0 at this point in time except visualization, which you don't need.
Another functionality that disappeared is the ability to roll back the firmware update to an older version. Old utility listed all firmware files. new utility keeps this hidden and only allows an upgrade. Very bad if the new version gets you in trouble.
It may seem like the new Utility is easier for regular folks, but try talking to a relative over the phone who's trying to hook up a TiVo or other non-Apple device to the wifi network. If you want something as simple as a list of all the assigned IP addresses you're SOL unless you get them to download and install 5.6. What a pain.
Thanks to you....after my software update auto downloaded Utiltiy 6.0 - I went back and downloaded 5.6 and it easily shows my old airport express units again that are tethered to my Extreme base station. Though Apple support did tell me that the system was working prior - just couldn't access any info about the old express units.
It looks like I've been bitten by 6.0. After finally making the move to iCloud, I had to reenter my Apple ID's password in the Back to my Mac section of the 6.0 utility to reenable the feature. After the update of the base station, my two legacy 802.1g Express' have disappeared. I had been using them successfully with WDS in your mixed solution but updating the password seems to have wiped out that configuration. Not sure if I can get them back. Will see how the network performs without them.
You should reset your time capsule and try to connect it once again with router. Make sure your apple airport express is configured properly. Settings should be default and firmware should be updated. Restart your router and try to use it once again . this will help thanks
Fortunately, PC owners can download a Windows version of Airport Utility, so their Airport router doesn't need to be thrown out as they move to Windows. Just so you know, for the last step of the process, your PC will need to be logged into the wireless network that the Airport router is running.
The airport utility is is not a sniffer program; however, it can provide interesting information about the wireless LAN. Also, it has the ability to set the default wireless channel - which is crucial for sniffer programs (tcpdump, Wireshark) that are themselves unable to set the channel
Tcpdump is a command line utility shipped with OS X that can perform packet capture. (The tshark utility bundled with Wireshark is very similar.) To perform a wireless packet capture using tcpdump:
Another option on the MAC to capture a wireless trace is to use Wireshark. This is a free program that can be downloaded from (Note: this requires that X11 be installed - for OS X 10.8, this means downloading and installing Xquartz.)
Kind of obvious now, but point being: If a radio is transmitting, there's no way for it to be receiving at the same time. Hence, even if OSX is just probing to remain associated, the chance is there to miss frames. "airportd" method should be used when absolute accuracy is required.
"airport" method can still be useful for a quick capture, especially if you want to see the frames real-time. Example: wanting to quickly verify data-rates being supported/mandatory, you can see that fly by in the tcpdump stream (just leave off the -w flag).
Can you please tell me how do you sniff in 80 MHz mode?? I use the airport utility to set the channel. the 1,-1 after the channel number tells about the secondary 40MHz channel. However, when I set channel number, I am not able to capture 80MHz data packets. The alternative method is - I associate to an AP which is operating in 80MHz, and then start wireshark. Now it captures all 80MHz packets as well. How do I configure it to sniff 80MHz packets without associating to an AP?

smcFanControl. Other users resort to the utility smcFanControl, which can control fan speed. Users report success in setting the fan speed to roughly 5,000 RPM when engaging in graphics-intense activities.
Boot in Safe mode and apply combo update. Booting into Safe Mode may temporarily restore your Internet connection, at which time you can reapply the Mac OS X 10.6.4 combo updater, which may resolve the problem. To boot in Safe Mode, hold the Shift key while your Mac is starting up. After booting in Safe Mode, download the Mac OS X 10.6.4 combo updater, which weighs in at a hefty 887MB. Quit all open applications and run the installer.
