Mac Os El Capitan Bootable Usb Download

Creating the bootable OS X El Capitan installer erases the USB flash drive you're using. Before you proceed, make sure you have a backup of the flash drive's contents or that you don't care that the data will be erased.

Mac Os El Capitan Bootable Usb Download

There is another way to create a bootable installer. It involves Disk Utility, Finder, hidden files, and a great deal of time and effort. If you prefer to use this method, follow our guide: How to Make a Bootable Flash Installer of OS X or macOS. The older OS used in that guide still works for El Capitan.

You don't need a bootable installer to upgrade macOS or reinstall macOS, but it can be useful if you want to install macOS on multiple computers without downloading the installer each time, or you're unable to install a compatible macOS from the Finder or macOS Recovery.

Many Mac users like to make a bootable installer drive for installing OS X El Capitan, whether for performing a clean install, or for making it easier to install OS X 10.11 onto multiple Macs. We will walk through creating a bootable install flash drive from OS X El Capitan with the final public version.

Apple has now made the El Capitan file from their website into a .dmg file. In order to use this file to create a bootable drive, you must do these steps before you are able to use the createinstallmedia command.

Once the application is installed you will have a application in your /Applications Folder called Install OS X El Capitan. At this point you will now be able to use the rest of the guide to create the bootable drive.

UPDATE: problem solved: the issue was that the date of my mac did not match the download date of El Capitan. To solve the issue, I let my mac launch in recovery mode and accessed Terminal where I entered:

Simply fill in the date that applies to your download (i.e. 0101000015 for January 1st 2015 at midnight), hit enter and quit Terminal. Then you will be presented with the same list as before, where you click to re-install OS X and the load should proceed without a problem.

Dead links, a 6 GB download with no progress feedback, my 4th MACBook Pro and I grow weary of this crap. Over priced systems that hassle you just to create a startup disk for a mediocre OS. Not to mention the loss of entire disk partitions from upgrading the OS. The only thing that has kept me going is the lack of viruses.

thank you!! its working. some days ago i did the same thing to install yosemite but yeah a bit different commands. its the best ever way and method to install OS X using usb. its amazing. i am now gonna erase my os x and install fresh mac os x el capitan, happy that this method works so cool

The createinstallmedia command worked on my MacBook Pro so I took the USB stick and plugged it into my friends MacBook Pro with a new blank hdd in it and it booted fine. I used disk utility to format the hdd as HFS+ Journaled and that worked fine. Whenever I go to install OS X, however, it tells me that the installer is corrupt. I redownloaded the installer and made me install media and got the same error. What do I do?

I made a bootable OS X ElCapitan USB, replaced my MacBook HD with a new SSD and tried to boot up with the OS X. I pressed the option key immediately after the booting up chime and held it down. After a few minutes I saw a flashing folder icon with a question mark on it. Any idea what this means? Please help. Thank you.

I deleted installer file. Downloaded it again. Performed the upgrade. Downloaded the installer again and then made my bootable installer disk. Worked perfectly! Thank god for my 150Mbps. Thanks for the reply.

SOLVED!!!I face trouble in creating el capitan USB then i found this link to buy the USB,They provide USB 16 GB with VERY EASY installation manual by which people like me can install El Capitan perfectly.

An InstallMacOSX.dmg file for OS X El Capitan, can be downloaded from the Apple website How to download macOS or How to create a bootable installer for macOS. While this file can be restored to a flash drive, the result is not a working OS X El Capitan USB installer.

Use Microsoft Edge (or some other web browser) to download the following installers to your Downloads folder. The file names are current as of September 22, 2022. If both 32 bit and 64 bit versions are available, the 64 bit version is given in the table.

Use the File Explorer to delete the OS X Install ESD folder and InstallAssistant.icns file in your Downloads folder. If you wish, you can also delete the downloaded files. When finished, close the File Explorer window, then empty the Recycle Bin.

I have downloaded the El Capitan DMG file (InstallMacOSX.dmg) provided by Apple. The expanded DMG image contains the package "InstallMacOSX.pkg" which should be run to create the El Capitan installer but fails with the following message: This version of OS X 10.11 cannot be installed on this computer. (from the OS X Installer) That happens presumably because, quite reasonably, it would not make sense to install on top of a later version of the OS. However, in this case, I want to create a boot USB drive for an installation on another Mac.

I have noticed that these instructions no longer work as expected when using the current InstallMacOSX.dmg file, which can be downloaded from either the Apple website "How to download macOS" or the Apple website "How to create a bootable installer for macOS". These instructions may work as expected, if you are using an older saved version of this file. At best, these instructions are just a hack and Apple has every right to change the InstallMacOSX.dmg file to prevent the desired results.

There is a link on the Apple website "How to download macOS" that will download a file that can be used to create the Install OS X El Capitan application. However, if the model Mac is too new to allow the installation for El Capitan, then message given below will occur when trying to create the Install OS X El Capitan application.

Download the InstallMacOSX.dmg file by clicking on the OS X El Capitan 10.11 link in the Apple document "How to download macOS". These instructions assume that this file has been downloaded to your /Downloads folder.

Choose a version of macOS to install. For example, a virtual machine can be installed by using an Install macOS application or macOS Recovery partition compatible with your Mac. Versions of macOS are available in the App Store or by following the instructions in the Apple document "How to download macOS".

Note: These instructions were tested using macOS 11.1 (Big Sur) on 2018 Mac mini as the host. The Install macOS Big Sur application for macOS 11.1 was already downloaded to the /Applications folder. You may wish to choose a different installation method and/or a different version of macOS.

(Optional) Use the client to perform this step. Download the InstallMacOSX.dmg file by clicking on the OS X El Capitan 10.11 link in the Apple document "How to download macOS". Use the Finder application to open the /Downloads/InstallMacOSX.dmg file with the DiskImageMounter application, then open the InstallMacOSX.pkg file in the Install OS X volume with the Installer application. Install the Install OS X El Capitan application on the Macintosh HD disk. When finished, from the sidebar of a Finder application window, choose to eject the Install OS X volume. Skip the next two steps.

(Optional) At this point, You can insert a 8 GB or larger flash drive in a USB port on the host. When a popup similar to the one shown below appears, select Connect to the VM, then skip to the last step and use the client to create a bootable installer for macOS.

I don't have enough reputation points to vote or comment on Chris Braucker solution, but seems to be working for me.... writing to USB stick as we speak after multiple hours of trying to find way of getting Catalina to create bootable USB drive for El Capitan.

Now you can finally run the command to create a drive bootable into the El Capitan Installer. Replace /Volumes/MyVolume with the mount point of the drive you wish to use. It will erase the drive.

ISO File: ISO file is an image file that stores every single data of a file or software and can be used as a portable file. It was created to easily store image files on CD/DVDs and now that CDs and DVDs are not commonly used ISO files are used as it is and can be downloaded from the internet.

Hope the article was informative, we have discussed every major aspect that you need to know before installing the Mac OS X El Capitan OS on your Mac PC or virtual machine. With these simple download and install methods mentioned, you can easily download and install the Mac OS X El Capitan.

It goes without saying that you will need an internet connection to download the software and you may need it while installing the version of macOS if it needs to check for firmware or confirm your iCloud credentials.

It was 2009 when Apple last released a new operating system on physical media. Things have proceeded remarkably smoothly since version 10.7 switched to download-only installers, but there are still good reasons to want an old, reliable USB stick. For instance, if you find yourself doing multiple installs, a USB drive may be faster than multiple downloads (especially if you use a USB 3.0 drive). Or maybe you need a recovery disk for older Macs that don't support the Internet Recovery feature. Whatever the reason, you're in luck, because it's not hard to make one.

I'm thinking of using this method to revert back to an older os due to my mac slowing down with Sierra. Will I be able to install just Yosemite or el capitan? Without installing previous os upgrades? This way I can have a fresh mac book.

I have a 2013 Macbook Pro that I'm about to give away so in preparation, I erased the hard drive via Disk Utility and intended to reinstall OSX in Recovery Mode. However in Recovery Mode, it will try to download El Capitan and install it but it will fail each time. It'll go through the process of logging me into the App Store, and download El Capitan, but at some point, it will say it's unable to install it. 2ff7e9595c
